
Painter and teacher whose picture in acrylic and household paint on canvas From the Day You Were Born was included in the 1997–8 John Moores Liverpool Exhibition. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Haughton studied at Cardiff College of Art, 1974–5; Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham, 1975–8; Slade School of Fine Art, 1978–80; and Goldsmiths’ College, 1992–4. From the mid-1980s he took part in group shows including Into the Nineties, Mall Galleries, 1994, and Foil, 202 Great Sufffolk Street, 1996. There was a solo show at Houldsworth Fine Art, 2001, where Haughton’s swirling coils of paint provided a baroque twist to minimal surfaces. Taught at Kingston and Middlesex Universities. Lived in London.
