Artist, born in Johannesburg, Transvaal Province, South Africa. She graduated in fine arts from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town, 1983–6; did a postgraduate advanced painting course there, 1988; and gained a postgraduate diploma from the Slade School of Fine Art in London, where she settled, 1988–90. Gundle depicted people in canvases notable for their colour, clear image delineation and quirkiness. Later, she concentrated on their footwear, as in her solo show The Shoe Fits, at Art First, 2003. She also took part in many solo exhibitions in Britain and abroad, which latterly included Time Pieces, The Gallery in Cork Street (sculpture exhibition), 2000, and She, a national tour organised by The City Gallery, Leicester, 2002.
