Originally a railway porter, this landscape painter’s talent was nurtured from 1926 in Beverley, Yorkshire, by the artist Fred Elwell. Goodin attended the Royal Academy Schools, where he won the Gold Medal, the Elwells helping to fund his studies. After World War II, during which he served overseas, Goodin settled in Bridlington, Yorkshire, and married. Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, holds Goodin’s The Old Custom House, and he was also exhibited at RA and at the Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, America. Elwell’s portrait of Goodin, painted shortly after his Royal Academy studies in 1937, is owned by Sewerby Hall, Yorkshire.
