Painter, sculptural installation and mixed-media artist, born and worked in Belfast, Northern Ireland, who was interested in social, political and historical conflict, as in The Ulster Saga, at Newlyn and Middlesbrough Art Galleries, 1994–5. His images and palette could be rich, primitive, powerful. In 1989 Gleason designed colour illustrations for Brian McAvera’s book Art and Politics in Ireland; in 1990 his Monumental Head image made a poster for Yeats Theatre Festival at Abbey Theatre, Dublin. Also in 1990 he gained Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Department of Foreign Affairs, Dublin, awards. In addition to many group shows in Ireland and abroad, later solo exhibitions included Orchard Gallery in Londonderry and tour, 1989, and QQ Gallery, Cracow, Poland, 1990.
