Painter, printmaker and teacher, born in Leeds, Yorkshire, his father Fred being a lithographer. Studied at the local College of Art, 1928–31, then at Royal College of Art, 1931–5, teachers including Gilbert Spencer. From 1936 began teaching at art schools in Yorkshire, being on the staff of Salisbury College of Art, 1947–72. Showed with RA, Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood and widely in the provinces. Lived in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
