Painter of landscapes and historical scenes and etcher, born in Barwell, Leicestershire. His father was a farm labourer, Sam became a bootmaker and studied for 15 years in the evenings at the local School of Art. He settled in Brecon and showed at the Eisteddfod, his picture King Charles Leaving the Priory, Brecon, winning a prize. Also showed at RCamA, RHA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, RA and elsewhere. He was a member of Brecon Conservative Club.
