Sculptor and draughtsman, born in Perry Green, Hertfordshire. In 1958 he joined his father’s building business, in 1965 becoming a full-time assistant to Henry Moore, having previously worked part-time. At first Farnham’s sculptures were fairly conventional, but in the mid-1970s they began to get more personal and complex, with a greater exploration of the abstract. In 1969 Farnham showed at Pace Gallery, then after further showings had a solo exhibition in 1973 at Old Bakehouse Gallery, Sevenoaks, the year he carried out his first major commission: Winged Figure, commissioned by Department of the Environment for Royal Air Force, Naphill. In 1973 also gained an Arts Council grant. Further commissions included Life Form, of 1980, commissioned by Institute of Biology.
