Lilian Edmonds was born in Clifton, Bristol, Somerset [now Gloucestershire], England on 22 January 1869. Within three years both her parents had died, and she was raised by relations including her elder sister and brother in Bath. By 1891 she had moved to Lambeth, London and was living with her sister, Florence. By 1901 she had moved to Fulham and was living alone. The England Census that year records her occupation as an Artist (Painter). It is not known where or with whom she trained as an artist. By 1911 she had moved to Wimbledon, London, and by 1918 had moved to Clapham Park, London. In the early 1920s she moved to Cambridgeshire and by 1928 was living in the village of Harston, near Cambridge. She continued to live in Cambridgeshire for the rest of her life
