Painter and journalist, born in Standerton, Transvaal, South Africa. Was educated in Cape Town, but had no formal art training. During World War I saw service in wide area of Middle East and acted as a correspondent for newspapers in South Africa. Took up painting seriously in his thirties and showed in England from the late 1920s. Exhibited extensively with Goupil and Arlington Galleries; also Leicester Galleries; Roland, Browse and Delbanco; LG and elsewhere. Contemporary Art Society and Arts Council bought his work, which is in a number of South African galleries. Manchester City Art Gallery’s Boats, La Rochelle, is typical of the artist’s delicate, Impressionist manner. Press Club member who lived in London.
