Painter, printmaker, teacher and collector, born in Murree, Punjab, India. His mother was a keen amateur painter, his uncle Campbell Dodgson, of the British Museum, and early on he gained a love of Renaissance Italy. After attending Oxford University, 1909–13, Dodgson studied at Slade School of Fine Art, 1913–15, with Henry Tonks. Served with Army during World War I, carried out a commission for Imperial War Museum and in 1919 was for a short time assistant director at National Gallery under Sir Charles Holmes. Showed with NEAC, LG of which he was president in 1950–2 and with London Artists’ Association, of which he was also a member. After World War II Army Service Dodgson taught at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, 1946–50, then at Chelsea School of Art, 1950–8.
