Portrait painter, born in Bradford, Yorkshire, son of the artist Henry John Dobson. He was educated at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh, studying art in the Scottish capital, London and Paris. Showed at RA from 1913–59, including portraits of notable sitters including Admiral of the Fleet the Earl Beatty, 1934, and The Earl Attlee, 1956. Was elected RBA in 1922, also exhibiting at Fine Art Society, Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, RSA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and elsewhere. Glasgow Corporation bought his work. Lived finally in London and was an Arts Club member.
