Painter in oil, sculptor, furniture maker and teacher, born in Edgbaston, Birmingham. He studied at the College of Arts and Crafts there and at Slade School of Fine Art. Deykin taught at Warwick School, 1936–65, except for a period in camouflage work in World War II. In 1950–1 Deykin was commissioned by Geoffrey Pugh, head of Atco Ltd, the lawnmower company, to complete 23 paintings showing the progress of grass sports in the twentieth century. They were given a countrywide tour. The collection was sold at Sotheby’s in 1982. Some are illustrated in M A Wingfield’s Sport and the Artist, volume one on ball games, published in 1988. Showed RA, Whitechapel Art Gallery and elsewhere in mixed shows. Sponsored solo shows included Eton, Harrow and Cambridge and Norwich Art Schools.
