Architect, sculptor and writer, born in Mafeking, South Africa. He studied at University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, moved to London in 1947 and that year studied part-time at Sir John Cass School of Art, then Central School of Arts and Crafts, 1950–4, and St Martin’s School of Art, 1956–8. Crosby was a fellow of RIBA and of the Chartered Society of Designers and was made RA in 1990. He became a partner in Pentagram Design Partnership. As a sculptor he made large terracottas and stone carvings, in later years moving towards a more classical imagery and technique. He was commissioned to make a drinking fountain in Hyde Park for the Great Children’s Party, 1979, also working on the Shakespeare Globe Centre and National Police Memorial in The Mall.
