Painter, potter and teacher, born in Harrow, Middlesex. He studied at Willesden and Guildford Schools of Art, gaining his diploma in painting in 1951, and went on to teach at Maidstone College of Art and Central School of Arts and Crafts, 1957–68. His first solo show was in 1957 and he represented Britain in abstract painting exhibitions in Scandinavia and Australia, 1960–1. Coviello moved to Canada in 1968 and became co-ordinator of creative art, Sheridan College, Oakville. From 1969 he was involved with pottery after meeting Glasgow-born Liz Brown, whom he married. In both pottery and painting Coviello worked on a big scale. Arts Council holds Coviello’s abstract Hanuman, of the mid–1960s. Lived for some years at Plainfield, Ontario, often showing with his wife.
