Painter, draughtsman, printmaker and teacher, born in Abergwynfi, West Glamorgan, married to the artist Jane Carpanini. He studied at Gloucestershire College of Art, 1964–8, Royal College of Art, 1968–71, and University of Reading, 1971–2. Taught at Oundle School, later becoming head of art and design in faculty of education at Wolverhampton Polytechnic. Carpanini was a member of RBA, 1976, being awarded its de Laszlo Medal in 1980; fellow of RE, 1981; and in 1983 a member of RWA and NEAC. Also showed at Piccadilly Gallery, New Art Centre, Agnew and Business Art Galleries. Later solo exhibitions included Attic Gallery, Swansea, 2002. Carpanini’s work was largely devoted to the industrial scene in South Wales. National Museum of Wales in Cardiff, National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, Contemporary Art Society for Wales and other public collections hold examples.
