Painter who studied at Liverpool College of Art during late 1940s. In 1959 he was appointed head of art at Birkenhead School. From the early 1950s showed RA and with Crane Kalman Gallery in London, but was mainly represented in the north of England, showing at Liverpool Academy and with local societies. Was also a member of RCamA. Birkenhead, Liverpool and Manchester Corporations hold his work. Butler’s tiled mosaic for the Churchill shopping precinct at Dudley, Worcestershire, was of a striking Cubist design.
