Sculptor and teacher, born in Leeds, Yorkshire. Between 1939–49 Burt worked as an industrial metal worker, apart from service in the Army in World War II, although he did sculpt in his spare time. From 1948–55 he studied part-time at Leeds College of Art, making assemblages, sculptures and reliefs, then he taught at Leeds, 1956–60. This was the first of a series of teaching posts throughout England, including art colleges in Leicester, Cardiff, Wolverhampton and Falmouth. He had his first one-man show at Drian Gallery in 1961, others following at Exe Gallery, Exeter, and Angela Flowers. Oriel Gallery, Cardiff, gave him a retrospective in 1980. Burt had a close connection with Cyprus, living and working there for a time, with two others opening the Pisces Art Gallery in Famagusta in 1972 and teaching at summer school there.
