Miniaturist, portrait and landscape painter, born into a family of artists, father William Luker, mother Ada Margetts. They did not wish her to study painting and took her away from the South Kensington Art School, sending her to teach art in a local high school. By 1900 she had earned enough money to attend Herkomer’s School, Bushey, where she was a star pupil, showing annually at the RA. Leaving Bushey in 1904 she moved to Cape Town, married Philip Burrell, but returned to England in 1907 for the birth of her daughter Philippa. Her husband having died Burrell resumed her career, becoming a leading miniaturist, painting members of the royal family, showing at Fine Art Society, Walker and other galleries. In 1912 she moved to Ottawa to restore her health from overwork, and embarked on a life of extensive travel, including visits to America, India and Canada again, eventually returning to England again, where she died in Barnet, Hertfordshire.
