Sculptor in wood, stone and bronze, and teacher, born in London. He attended Ampleforth College, 1941–4, and Oriel College, Oxford, 1945, serving in Royal Marines, 1945–7. After Robert Thompson, Kilburn, in 1948, Bunting studied under Walter Marsden at St Martin’s School of Art, 1949–51, then with John Skeaping and Leon Underwood at Royal College of Art, 1951–4. Bunting was appointed drawing and art master at Ampleforth in 1955, where he proved an inspiring teacher, pupils including the painter Andrew Festing and sculptor Antony Gormley. He became sculptor-in-residence in 1984, continuing to make new works until 1995. He showed with RA, York Festival, and elsewhere in mixed exhibitions. Had a solo show with Fischbacher, Paris, in 1965, and a retrospective at Billingham Forum in 1972.
