Designer of murals, mosaics and windows, born in London, who studied at Beckenham School of Art, 1941–4, then Royal College of Art, 1947–50, his teachers including John Cole, Kenneth Rowntree and Charles Mahoney. He exhibited at RA, Young Contemporaries, AIA and in the Power and Production Pavilion at London’s South Bank Festival Site. Budd also did a substantial amount of advertising designing, but was better known for public building designs, including windows in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Brighton; a coat-of-arms in the foyer of Guy’s Hospital; and work in the Medical Centre at Westerham, Kent, where he lived. Budd was a member of the Art Workers’ Guild. After Budd’s death, his son Oliver, with whom he had completed joint commissions, continued the practice.
