Artist and teacher, born in London, who lived in South Africa, 1929–49. He was a self-taught artist who worked in the clothing industry for many years and lived in Cornwall, 1956–80. He was a part-time gardener for the artist Patrick Heron, having an attic studio in his Eagles Nest home, 1956–8; moved to St Ives and was a studio assistant to Barbara Hepworth, 1959–62, teaching at Truro Art School, 1960–80. Showed regularly with Penwith Society and then Fore Street Gallery and was included in Belgrave Gallery 1992 show British abstract art of the 50s and 60s. After producing little work for about 20 years from 1965, Broido resumed painting. Pier Gallery Arts Centre, Stromness, holds his work.
