Painter, designer, teacher and administrator, born in Bradford where he attended the College of Art. Also studied at Royal College of Art. Was the father of the artist Derek Ward Sallis Benney. Sallis Benney went on to hold a series of posts at art schools throughout the country, ending up as principal of Brighton College of Art and director of art education there, 1934–58. Exhibited RA, RBA, Cooling Galleries, NEAC, ROI and provincial galleries. Work held by Victoria & Albert Museum, Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne and in other provincial galleries. Member of Chelsea Arts Club. Lived in Brighton.
