Multi-talented artist, whose output apart from paintings included pewter and brassware, illuminated texts, textile designs and rugs for Debenhams stores. She was a pupil of Maud Wear, studying at Bournemouth Municipal School of Art after World War I. There she met her future husband, the painter and printmaker Arthur Bell, their son being the artist and teacher John Bell. Showed at RA and in the provinces, several times jointly with her husband, and all three members of the family had works exhibited at RWA in 1955. The booklet accompanying her husband’s 1997 memorial show, held at the RWA and which included some of Bertha’s work, outlines Bertha’s life. She was buried at Leckhampton churchyard, Gloucestershire.
