Painter, teacher and printmaker, born in Boston Spa, Yorkshire, the son of an architect. Studied at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Rome, 1919–23, where he taught for a short time, then at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, 1935–6. He went on to teach at Truro School of Art and elsewhere in Cornwall, which was the focus of his career, being closely associated with the St Ives Society of Artists and several other such societies within Cornwall. Showed extensively at Fine Art Society, also RI, SGA of which he was a member and NS. Lived in Truro.
