Painter, illustrator, writer and teacher, who studied at St Martin’s and Camberwell Schools of Art, teachers including William Coldstream, Lawrence Gowing and John Minton. He taught at Margate, Canterbury and Maidstone Colleges of Art for 32 years, retiring early to concentrate on painting. Bayly was vice-president of RWS and president of Weald of Kent Art Group and showed at Piccadilly and Mall Galleries. Also showed extensively in Australia. He regarded his series of Alignment paintings as main works, “based on various forms of pathways and ancient sites”. Wrote books on painting and drawing and for children. RWS Diploma Collection holds his work. Lived in Staplehurst, Kent.
