After graduating in Fine Art from the Central School of Art and Design, London, Roger Barnard exhibited in a number of group exhibitions, including Young Britain, B. Altman & Co, New York (1966), The New Generation at the Whitechapel Gallery, London and Museum of Modern Art, Oxford (1966), The New Generation: Interim at the Whitechapel Gallery (1968), and Leicestershire Collection: Part II, Whitechapel Gallery, (1968). A developing interest in Japanese art led him in 1975 to Japan, where he has lived ever since. He has had solo shows at Gallery 58, Tokyo (2014) and Gallery Q, Tokyo (2020) and his work has since been exhibited in group exhibitions such as 'Imagining a University: Fifty Years of The University of Warwick Art Collection', Mead Gallery, Warwick Art Centre (2015) and 19th Mitsui Fudosan Office Exhibition, Tokyo (2020).
