Geoffrey Alan Baker was born in Faversham, Kent, England on 5 October 1851 and studied at Canterbury School of Art in Canterbury, Kent from 1898 to 1902, and at the Royal College of Art in London from 1902 to 1907. He subsequently worked as a painter
He exhibited intermittently at the Royal Academy in London from 1908 to 1953. He was a member of the Brighton Guild of Applied Art and participated in their exhibition at Brighton Art Gallery in 1912.
From 1913 to 1947 he was Principal of Bournemouth College of Art. He was awarded a Silver Medal in the 1901 National Competition for studies of flowers and plant in relation to design.
His address was given as 42 Market Street, Brighton, Sussex in 1908; 14 West Hill Road, Brighton, Sussex in 1911; 79 Stanpit, Christchurch, Hampshire in 1916 and 1937; and 16 Stanpit, Christchurch, Hampshire in 1942 and 1959. He died in Hampshire on 22 October 1959.
