
Watercolourist, born in Hale, Cheshire, cousin of the artist Arnold Auerbach. Aubrey’s work was fluently figurative, in the tradition of John Singer Sargent, Edward Seago and John Yardley. Educated at Clare College, Cambridge, where he was much involved as a stage designer, working closely with Trevor Nunn and George Rylands. Called to the bar by Gray’s Inn, practised as a barrister and journalist while painting and exhibiting. Taught at Cambridge University and Oundle School, painting full-time from 1995. Had many group shows and over 20 solo exhibitions, including Newburgh Street Gallery, 1989; Church Hill Gallery, Knutsford, 1995; Walker Gallery, Harrogate, 1996; Art Connoisseur Gallery, 1998; The Gallery in Cork Street, 2000; Wren Gallery, Burford, 2002; with overseas shows in Australia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka under the patronage of the British Council.
