Artist and teacher, whose work developed from figuration to abstraction and who used a variety of materials. She was married, 1955–73, to Ronald Alley, art historian and Tate Gallery curator, their daughters being the artists Melissa and Fiammetta Alley. Born in Seremban, Malaya, she attended Chelsea School of Art, 1948–51, then Royal College of Art, 1951–3, although as a sculptor she was self-taught. For several years she taught at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham. Mixed shows included Young Contemporaries in Manchester in 1954, RA Summer Exhibition and in 1961 she won a painting prize at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition. Her first solo show was at Molton Gallery in 1960. In 1964 solo exhibitions comprised Hamilton Gallery and Arts Council of Northern Ireland Gallery, Belfast; had a solo show at Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol, and Bradford City Art Gallery and tour, 1969; and shared several shows with Gillian Ayres.
