Oxford University Press is a department of the University of Oxford. The publishing imprint furthers the University's objective of excellence in research, scholarship, and education.
Art UK and Oxford University Press (OUP) have been working together since 2011. Initially, this related to OUP providing access to the Oxford English Dictionary for use in Art UK's Tagger initiative.
Since 2014 the relationship has been based around OUP sharing with Art UK short artist biography entries from The Oxford Dictionary of Art and Artists for our artist pages.
OUP also provides UK public library cardholders free access through Art UK to relevant entries in The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and to Oxford Art Online which comprises Grove Art Online and Benezit Dictionary of Artists. To take advantage of this feature, create an account on Art UK, visit your profile page, add the long number on your UK library card, select your local authority and click 'Save'. Now, when you visit selected pages on Art UK, you will be able to click on the links under 'Find out more' and go straight to the ODNB or Oxford Art Online entries. Try it with Turner, Raphael or Surrealism.
You can also access dictionary entries directly through the Oxford Art Online website– just enter your library card number on the left-hand side.
Since 2020, to support Art UK's focus developing learning resources for schools, OUP has generously agreed to give Art UK users access to its explanations of terms used in the study of art through The Oxford Concise Dictionary of Art Terms (2nd Edition) by Michael Clarke.
