The title of this well-loved picture 'Happy Days' refers to the idyllic lifestyle Munnings and violet were living at the time. Here Violet is seen with her dogs. munnings wrote, ''In her life with horses and galloping across Exmoor on all sorts – always riding them with a loose rein – her falls were few.'
In our 2024 displays we are taking we are taking a look behind the scenes at the ways in which Alfred Munnings created his pictures. On the landing at Castle House, alongside the finished picture, we have a display of studies and photographs showing Munnings' working process in creating a finished picture to be exhibited at the RA, and exuding the happys days Munnings and Violet enjoyed during their time on Exmoor.
