This work is based on an eighteenth century salt glazed bear jug in the collection of Nottingham City Museums. By playing with scale and experimenting with different additive processes Darbyshire created a new series of 12 sculptures (Xerox No. 1 to No. 12) exclusively for an exhibition at Nottingham Castle Museum in 2017 entitled 'The Object is Alive'. Whilst doing so, the artist has devised an entirely new approach to making sculpture that combines the extrusion principles of digital 3D printing with those of the ancient hand-crafted coil pot.
