A scale model of the war memorial in the Bank of England’s Garden Court. It was designed by sculptor Richard Reginald Goulden to commemorate the Bank staff who died in the First World War. The Bank is built on a site once occupied by a church dedicated to Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travellers. The subject was chosen by Goulden, who served in the Royal Engineers during the war, as a symbol of the spirit of self-sacrifice and love.
