A young woman taking a break from ironing. The painting is signed 'L David' and was for many years believed to be an original by Jacques-Louis David (1748–1825) – perhaps it was sold as such to Pierre le Sueur, who studied law in Paris. Le Sueur, a notable Constable of St Helier, acquired the majority of the pictures on display in the Assembly Room of St Helier Town Hall; on his early death in 1853 these were passed to his sister, who bequeathed them to the Parish. The Town Hall is actively engaged in researching the artist's identity.
