Saint Mark is shown seated at a desk with a pen and scroll. At his feet lies his symbol, a lion. One of four panels depicting the four evangelists, possibly derived from two separate retables carved in the same hand, from Fountains Abbey. All four are deeply chased on the back perhaps showing that both retables were fitted into timber screen or reredos. The panel of Saint Mark is similar to that of Saint John, as both are shown with a pen and scroll.
