Dr G. H. Barlow began his career as a midshipman in the Royal Navy before switching to medicine. He was appointed Assistant Physician to Guy's Hospital in 1840 and in 1843 he was appointed a full physician. He d was the first editor of Guy's Hospital Reports. He was also the author of 'Manual of the Practice of Medicine' (1856). He is shown seated in a wooden chair wearing a black suit and white shirt.
