The Wyllieum is a new venue celebrating the work and legacy of artist George Wyllie (1921–2012).
An extraordinary self-taught artist and 'social sculptor', George Wyllie's art fearlessly tackles pressing issues such as the climate crisis, capitalism, and Britain's industrial decline. His incredible creations in steel, stone, wood, and paper are proudly displayed at The Wyllieum, home to the largest collection of his art.
Embark on a fascinating adventure through Wyllie's imaginative creations in the collections gallery. Marvel at the ambition of his iconic public artworks, 'The Straw Locomotive' (1987) and 'The Paper Boat' (1989), along with the thought-provoking play 'A Day Down A Goldmine' (1982). You will also discover insights into lesser-known but equally significant works of art.
The main gallery at The Wyllieum is known for its impressive design and a line-up of inspiring exhibitions and events. While the community space, The Upstairs Basement, is buzzing with artwork from talented local artists. Our gift shop is also brimming with unique and original things to buy.
