More about

The Meffan Museum and Art Gallery is the flagship venue for Angus Council's fine art collection. Here two galleries are devoted to art exhibitions, bringing the work of a range of contemporary Scottish artists to Angus. Two further galleries explore 'The Forfar Story' from the time of Pictish artistic endeavour. Here a stunning collection of Pictish Stones is displayed to best advantage so both the front and rear of these enigmatic sculptured stones can be closely examined. The visitor can next wander through time down a narrow cobbled street, peer into a knockmaker's workshop (clocks), see linen being woven by a weaver, drool over bread and Forfar bridies at the bakers and watch the shoemaker mending and making boots and shoes. The last shop on the street is Peter Reid's sweetie shop with its famed Forfar rock. Finally, the visitor steps into a crowd staring in awe at the trial and burning of a witch.
