More about

St Machar’s was the cathedral of the diocese of Aberdeen in medieval times. The earliest parts of the surviving building date to the later 1300s. The transepts contain some fine late medieval wall-tombs, the finest of which commemorates Bishop Gavin Dunbar, who died in 1532. It features an ornate carving and an effigy of the bishop.
