John Turner
1916–2006
Painter, notable for portraits which reflected his interest in bygone techniques, born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He studied at the College of Art there, 1935–8, then Slade School of Fine Art, 1938–41, and after returning to Ulster took up teaching, eventually at Belfast College of Art, from 1964–90 full-time.
