Brodick Castle, Garden & Country Park on the Isle of Arran is unique in being the only island country park in Britain. The castle offers 800 years of history, a fabulous collection of historic artefacts and stunning views over Brodick Bay to the Ayrshire coast. The Collection includes paintings by Watteau, family portraits and a famous selection of racing scenes from the nineteenth century, along with the famous Beckford collection of gold and silver artefacts. The transformation of the exterior of Brodick Castle in the mid-nineteenth century was matched by the transformation within. No Scottish architect of this period had a greater feeling for the design of dramatic interiors than James Gillespie Graham. He reworked and created the interiors in a pioneering Scottish Baronial style of the greatest quality, reflecting the princely status of the Dukes of Hamilton.
