The Museum of Farnham is a Grade I listed Georgian town house with a beautiful walled garden. The museum has a fine collection of nineteenth and twentieth-century British work and houses a collection of objects, fine art and archive material relating to the history of Farnham. The creation in the 1860s of Farnham Art School means that the town has been an exceptionally creative hub for over 150 years and this is reflected in the unique fine art housed in the Museum of Farnham. Most of the collection was donated to the Museum although some paintings were purchased. New works of art are being added to the Museum of Farnham collection through donation or purchasing. The 74 oil paintings that the museum holds were mainly painted between eighteenth and twentieth century by well-known artists such as John Verney and William Herbert Allen. However the Museum also holds an important collection of works by the eighteenth-century Farnham artist Stephen Elmer all of which are on permanent display.
