The King Edward VII collection has evolved over many years. It consists of work by local island artists and in the main the paintings have been donated in appreciation of care given patients. The local land and seascapes, familiar and comforting images, can stimulate memory, a valuable asset in the treatment of elderly patients. The purpose of art in healthcare is to enhance the environment, making the surroundings more pleasing and welcoming, serving to aid the healing process.

For access to the collection, permission must be obtained from the Modern Matron, Elderly Care. The paintings are mainly in wards and patient sitting rooms, therefore not usually available for public viewing.
