More about

Art in hospitals provides staff and patients with a welcome glimpse into the warmth and expressive nature of humanity. In many cases people attend hospitals when they are concerned, either for themselves or a loved one, and art can provide both pleasure and reassurance during what can often be a difficult time. The Aneurin Bevan Health Board manages NHS hospitals and clinics within the Boroughs of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen. The art on show inside our premises spans around 40 years and is a mixture of commissioned and donated works. Some of the paintings have been donated as a thank you for care that has been provided; others have been given in memory of a well loved patient or colleague. All the paintings in our collection, whatever their origin, provide the same function: to improve the environment for those working in it and receiving healthcare. We hope that the paintings that are currently on show continue to give pleasure to patients, visitors and staff for many years to come and we are extremely grateful to the Public Catalogue Foundation for bringing them to a wider audience. Please be aware that these are working hospitals and we can only accommodate small groups (3 or 4 people) to view paintings at any one time. If in any doubt, please ask a member of staff to direct you to the site manager.
