Curator Valerie Boa of the McLean Museum and Art Gallery explains why Crème de menthe is her Curator’s Choice.
‘I love this exuberant work Crème de menthe by Scottish Colourist F. C. B. Cadell. The artist has painted it with verve and panache and it conveys a great sense of joie de vivre. His bold use of colour draws one into this vibrant scene. The McLean is very fortunate to hold five much-admired paintings by the Colourists, which are now available for you hang on your own wall at home to enjoy. The collection also contains many wonderful Scottish School works for you to choose from plus paintings by prominent Irish and English artists and well-known foreign artists such as Corot, Courbet and Boudin.’
