Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council is responsible for Shibden Hall (home of Anne Lister, whose life was dramatised in the BBC’s Gentleman Jack), Bankfield Museum, Heptonstall Museum and the Smith Art Gallery. The extensive collection of over 70,000 objects includes over 500 oil paintings, many of which are landscapes depicting the region and local street scenes of times gone by. This collection of oil paintings has been shared with Art UK and many are available to buy as prints on the Art UK Shop.
