Penelope Woolfitt learnt to sew a very fine seam indeed in Bond Street at the time of the coronation. She went on to work in Paris and London, and later taught pattern cutting and design studies. She developed a keen interest in Asian arts and textiles, and lectured in the geometry of ethnic clothes.
