Maud Rowell is a freelance journalist and writer based in London. Blind since the age of 19, she is passionate about telling the stories of marginalised people and diversifying the media. She read Japanese at Robinson College, Cambridge, before training in journalism at City, University of London, where she graduated with distinction. As well as writing about art, she is a keen amateur painter, film photographer, and mixed media artist. She has also worked in the field of translation, and in 2020 translated an essay by Japanese daguerreotypist Takashi Arai for the exhibition 'Squaring the Circles of Confusion' at the Royal Photographic Society in Bristol.
