One of the strongest collections of Modern British Art in England, and deserving of a wonderful home and to be seen and enjoyed both by local residents and those visiting this town aspiring to be a city. Strengths in depth right across the century, a quite remarkable achievement for a collection outside of the major metropolitan centres. A selection from over 600 works of art and 300 studio ceramics, with acquisitions helped by the marvellous support of both The Art Fund and The Contemporary Art Society. Developed in association with Grant Waters, Art Detective Group Leader: South East England, East England and the Midlands.

Artists featured in this Curation: Vanessa Bell (1879–1961), John Bellany (1942–2013), Leslie F. Belton (1912–1992), Robert Polhill Bevan (1865–1925), Tony Bevan (b.1951), Roy Bizley (1930–1999), David Bomberg (1890–1957), Bernard Cohen (b.1933), Leslie Cole (1910–1976), Cecil Collins (1908–1989), and 38 more
