The Ferens Art Gallery is named after industrialist and local MP Thomas Robinson Ferens funded the building of a new gallery which opened in 1927. Its real strength lies within its 20th Century Collection and has held on to Ferens' tenet 'to resist any temptation to buy any works that is not likely to be enduring in influence'. Literally all the major figures in Modern British Art are represented in Hull from the Camden Town Group onwards, and has been the recipient of over 100 artworks over nearly a century from the Contemporary Art Society. Part Two: Augustus John to Bryan Wynter.
